Homo Sapiens Mating Season in the Louisiana Swamps
We had both noticed the distant shapes on the boardwalk through the trees, but I was slow to get the message when a female voice started loud yells... Claire recognized first what was going on, and when she identified the action taking place, I recognized that what I was hearing were surely not the cries of a damsel in distress. :-)) Recognizing that this species can turn hostile when surprised during mating season, we chose to retreat hastily, as the creatures were facing away from us, and perhaps had not noticed us in their preoccupied state... We waited beyond view...but well within earshot, for what seemed like a LONG time, until the cries subsided. We then decided that, rather than backtracking all the distance we had come, we should wait a respectable time, then approach noisily to give them time to escape with some dignity.....sorta like approaching bears (or is it bares?) in the woods. :-)) When we approached they had recovered some dress and composure, but did not show any inclination to meet us or greet us as they retreated nonchalantly ahead at a very fast walk......without the hand wave characteristic of the friendly locals here. They disappeared around the curve in the trail never to be seen again....by us at least. :-))

Oh well, we can't claim the swamps of Louisiana are boring now, can we?? :-))
